It's been "another good month of prospect activity" and Coweta County currently has 12 projects at various stages of development, Coweta County Development Authority President Greg Wright told the authority members Thursday morning.
"We developed five new project leads this month," he said. Wright had four prospect meetings in September.
Coweta County was eliminated from consideration for a proposed call center project "because of the company's specific building needs and their aggressive timetable to be up and running," Wright told the board.
"They had requirements for a specific kind of existing building, and we didn't have that in our inventory," he said.
Wright also said he is working with Newnan company LTI Flexible Products, which was devastated by a fire on Labor Day weekend, "to hopefully get it back up and running soon."
He said the Georgia Department of Economic Development and other agencies have been working together to make that happen.
"We continue to work with the Georgia Department of Economic Development, Georgia Tech, and Location Georgia to assist LTI flexible products," he said.
"We are hopeful that we can find a workable solution to help get them back into production in Coweta County very soon."
Wright said he wrote a letter to Department of Labor Commissioner Michael Thurmond to commend the Newnan Career Center for their fast reaction to the situation.
"Even though the plant burned Labor Day weekend, Peter Ludlow and his team worked over the holiday and were ready to meet with the dislocated workers first thing Tuesday morning," said Wright.
Wright and the development authority also hosted Jennifer Nelson, deputy director of existing industry and a member of the regional recruitment team with the Georgia Department of Economic Development when she came to town to assist with the LTI project, he said.
Wright said he recently conducted a community tour for Walt Farrell, a new business development consultant with Location Georgia, an information service of Electric Cities of Georgia.
"We were able to show Shenandoah Industrial Park, Ashley Park, downtown Newnan, the Newnan South Industrial Park, the Newnan-Coweta Airport, the Bridgeport property, Coweta Industrial Park and Creekside Industrial Park," said Wright. "And we also provided information on other sites in the county."
In other business, the development authority approved amendments for the YMCA bonds that were issued in 2006 to allow SunTrust to hold the bonds through a restructuring deal.
"They were public bonds, but now they're going to call them in and let SunTrust hold them," said development authority attorney Jerry Ann Conner. The development authority will receive a $5,000 administrative fee for handling the transaction.

Coweta a dump? Try living in Henry County. It's Clayton 2.0.

Did the 12 prospects go on the tour? My reading comprehension skills are pretty good, and I have no idea what this article was talking about in relation to the 12 prospects. I get that this was a recap of the meeting. This was just a bad title.

Where did Mr. Bishop go to school? Where ever it was, it did not teach him to stay on topic nor to write a salient article. Who, What, When, Where, How and Why

Jobs or no jobs. I love Coweta. The people, the history, the scenery, the collective values and beliefs, and all the neat places make Coweta a great place to live. Since when is it the government's job to insure that you have a job? If Coweta has no jobs for you, move somewhere else or start your own business. P.S. No one wants a porn business in Coweta except for moral perverts who enjoy pornography.

Are you kidding me? I think this story must be a misprint or Mr. Bishop forgot what he was writing about.

I know police and fire personel that can't live on their wages and its not due to overspending? I don't think their is such think as a livable wage. Some people would just be happy to find a job no matter the pay.

Maybe the county can issue/sell them a permit to renovate an existing building. Then after they spend thousands and offer jobs to Coweta residents, the county can turn down their business license.

I keep seeing all this "news" about businesses coming to Newnan/Coweta, but I don't see any of it actually coming to fruition. What good will it do any of us if by the time one or two of them actually show up and actually start hiring people, if we've already lost everything? What we need instead of false hope and empty promises are real jobs and employers who will actually hire people. Please stop with the "pie n the sky" stories. Unless of course if writing these stories keeps someone employed. Then by all means continue.

This article has nothing to say. Why was it even written?

I only hope new businesses will pay a livable wage, otherwise this will not help our County.

Terrible Story!

I'm pretty sure I speak for the majority of Cowetans when I say that we're a little weary of hearing about these "projects" that typically never materialize. But, this article was much ado about absolutely nothing. Although, I am glad to read that the county is stepping in to help LTI. We certainly can't afford to lose those jobs!

I would like to know the same thing!

"Coweta County currently has 12 projects at various stages of development" this is the only mention of the 12 projects..the rest is about Lti. Misleading title, either that or the writer didn't stay on topic.
