Mr. Erwin James "Doc" Eldridge Jr.

Obituary

Mr. Erwin James "Doc" Eldridge Jr., 84, passed away Tuesday, Oct. 27, 2009.

A memorial service in his honor will be held Thursday, Oct. 29 at 11 a.m. at Beech Haven Baptist Church in Athens, Ga. The family will receive friends in the church fellowship hall following the service.

Mr. Eldridge was born Dec. 19, 1924, in Americus, Sumter County, Ga. He graduated from Americus High School. He proudly served in the U.S. Navy during World War II aboard the USS Alpine, and returned to Athens to further his education after the war. He graduated from the University of Georgia with a degree in accounting and was a practicing Certified Public Accountant for almost 60 years. He was preceded in death by his parents, Erwin James Eldridge and Lil Easterlin Eldridge, and his sister, Martha Virginia Eldridge Carter.

Mr. Eldridge was a charter member of Beech Haven Baptist Church, and a member of the Co-Ed 70 and up Sunday School Class. He was a member of Sigma Alpha Epsilon fraternity, The Athens City Club, Ga. Society of Certified Public Accountants, and the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants. Above all, he was a loving husband, father, and grandfather.

"Doc-Doc," as he was known to his grandchildren, is survived by his wife of 61 years, Jane Harris Eldridge; a daughter, Beth Cathey (Richard "Skeet"), of Jefferson; two sons, E.J. "Doc" Eldridge III (Sheri), of Athens, Franklin W. Eldridge (Edie), of Newnan; and four grandchildren, E.J. "Doc" Eldridge IV (Amanda), of Athens, Gini Eldridge, of Atlanta, Royce and Harris Eldridge of Newnan; and a nephew, William P. Carter (Kitten) of Americus.
